TACTILE TALISMAN /
/ A full moon is always a great time to create together
We can all use a powerful reminder of our self, belief, trust and calm.
An amulet, talisman or charm is a personal ornament, which because of something inherent in the object (it's shape, material or color), is believed to endow its wearer with special powers or capabilities.
We'll create our own tiny tactile talismans that can be worn as a brooch or a necklace, pinned to a lapel, tied to a purse, or carried in a pocket: Each unique piece holds a power for the owner.
During this full moon workshop, we'll discuss color, texture and use a variety of textiles, vintage and new, hand-dyed, wool, cotton, French linen and hemp, while we hand stitch our own story into these tiny textiles.
Each one of us will choose a color way to work within, adding elements of beads or charms as you see fit, and then fill our tiny talismans with dried lavender or rose petals to hold a special scent to carry with you. Participants will leave with at least one talisman, and as our time may allow for more- you can make for yourself or others.
No previous experience necessary. All materials provided*
I highly suggest bringing your glasses! And, if you have specific tools you like to use while sewing, feel free to bring them.
*To make this textile/amulet work even more unique- bring with you objects of love and care - perhaps a penny for good luck, a small photo of your child or your dog, or a button from your dad’s shirt or a safety pin from your grandmother’s house dress… anything small, that can fit within a 2” square is appropriate to include.*
