A favorite workshop of mine, with a whole lot of immediate satisfaction for you, the stitcher!
Some people call it 'improv quilting' others call it 'intuitive stitching'. I've settled on the title "slow stitching" because that's truly what it is. Everything slows down when you engage in this workshop: Your hands, your mind, your thoughts...it's a fantastic way to reassess all you know.
Join me for a couple hours of wind-down where you will dive into the juicy fabric kit: the vintage, the special, the lovely, all for your slow-stitching pleasure. We won’t be using machines but turning our minds and our hands towards an improvisational panel that is created hand-stitch by hand-stitch. Spend an evening with like-minded creatives, all focused on this meditative stitching.
This is a process-oriented workshop, wherein students will develop their work intuitively by selecting fabric colors and textures while we discuss both improvisational and dedicated design concepts to approach your finished piece. Each student will have enough material to create a panel that is approximately 12”x12” – perfect for turning into a pillow, use as a quilt square or hang as artwork.
Supplies: Materials provided (please choose a color-way kit) as part of our evenings' work: textiles, stitching thread, needle, threader. I always recommend participants also include personal materials they’d like to incorporate; so, be sure to bring them to the workshop!
Additional Materials to bring to the table:
scissors, thread cutter, seam ripper, additional sewing or embroidery thread, personal fabric you love or wanted to include, your eye glasses, a nearby lamp, and a glass of wine or whiskey :)
