SUMINIGASHI  : Japanese Paper Marbling
Wednesday, June 25th, 6-8pm
at THE WORD BARN

Register Here!
Start these summer days off just right:  Let's create gorgeous, magical swirling patterns with the traditional craft of Suminigashi.
Suminigashi aka Japanese Paper Marbling is the ancient Japanese technique of decorating paper with inks.
It is believed to be the oldest form of marbling, originating in China over 2,000 years ago and practiced in Japan
by Shinto priests as early as the 12th century.
Suminagashi (sue-me-NAH-gah-she), which means literally “ink-floating” involves doing just that!

I would love for you to join in as we use Japanese marbling inks and various papers to create our own unique, swirling beauties that take just a short time to dry and can be used for a multitude of creative projects going forward.
Participants will leave with their own unique stack of marbled papers.
All materials provided for this workshop
Casual clothes recommended.
You may want to bring an apron and your glasses, too!

This Workshop is held at THE WORD BARN, in Exeter

Learn to practice the "magic" of this monochrome printing process which produces cyan-blue colored prints!
It’s a joyously fun day using this alternative solar printing process invented in the 1800's.
This is an introduction to the magic that is Cyanotype,  the “original” sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques.
Discovered in 1842 and distinctive for producing rich, Prussian blue monochromatic prints.  We will harness the power of the sun to make detailed prints from objects that cast a shadow, with a focus on creating special images of botanicals, leaves and petals from nature.
All materials provided for this workshop. Casual clothes recommended.

The Traveling Postal Club

The Traveling Postal Club  is a free -to-all, community, mail-art project/gathering that fellow artist, Anne Baumgartner & I started in 2017.  Past public projects include: "Dear Los Angeles", "Tell Me One Thing" and "Remember This Name"

The ongoing project "Tell Me One Thing" was born out of a wish for wisdom.  If we can't physically be together, we can still let each other know one thing:  an 'i love you' or an 'i baked bread!' or 'did you know dogs can talk?' something that connects you and one other person.  The community comes in when you share that 'one thing, one letter, one person' with the rest of us.  The joy, the wisdom, the one thing spreads out to all of us missing our families and friends...  we can all do our part to lift each other up with one little thing!

You can see all about our other public/community mail art projects on IG.
If you love mail-art or letter writing and want to make a difference not only in somebody's mailbox, but in someone's day,
join us in writing to people anywhere, anytime.

HOW TO JOIN IN VIRTUALLY

Once you've created your mail-art, written your letter or postcard and have it ready to send, take a photo of the front and the back side

or send it to us in a direct message (DM)
